The first project that we decided to do was the secretary of the future project. The main goal of this project was to find how implementing different polices effects the environment. the end result would be a creating a proposal using a slide show and a written portion to show to the local representative. For our proposal, we thought that we should try to make a fish farm so that there could be a use for the marsh land surrounding it. For the slideshow, we needed to have a model of the site, predictions for what will happen to the site with/without new addition of policies, how it will effect the site, local flora and fauna, and how it might effect the rest of the world. Below is the finished product of the slide show and the research behind our proposal.
Terms: ecosystem: A biological community of interacting organisms and their physical enviorment ecology: The branch of biology that deals with the relations of organisms to one another and to their physical surroundings/the political movement that seeks to protect the envioronment, espicially from pollution biotic: Of, relating to, or resulting from living things, especially in their ecological relations abiotic: Physical rather than biological, not derived from living organisms autotroph: an organism that is able to form nutritional organic substances from simple inorganic substances such as corbon dioxide producer: an autotrophic organism capable of producing complex organic compounds from simple inorganic molecules through the process of phototsynthesis or through chemosynthesis hedertroph :relating to an organism that connot manufacture its own food and instead obtains its food and energy by taking in organic subtances usually plant or animal matter. All animals, protozoans, fungi, and most bacteria are herterophic consumer:An organism that generally obtains food by feeding on other organisms or organic matter due to the lack of the ability to manufacture oen food from inorganic sources Nutrient cycles: The uptake, use, release and storage of nutrients by plants and their environments nitrogen cycle: basis for production of nitrogen that is essential to all forms of life Carbon cycle: a;; living things are made of carbon in one way or another. carbon is exchanged throughout the earth: atmosphere, oceans ecosysstem, and geosphere traps heat in atmosphere. Water cycle: begins in ocean, evaporates to atmoshpere, condenses to clouds, precipitation important because it recyles water and nutrients. weather: The state of the atmosphere day-to-day tempature Climate: the composite or generally prevailing weather conditions of a region, as temperate, air pressure, humidity, precipitation, sunshine, cloudiness, and winds, throughout the year, averaged over a series of years. symbiosis: A relationship between two different species succession: The process by which the structure of a biological community elvoles over time. Two different types of succession-primary and secondary. Primary succession: succession that takes place on surfaces where no soil exists. Secoundary succession: when a disturbance of some kind changes an existing community without removing the soil biodiversity: The variability amoung living organisms tfrom all sources including inter alia, ecosystems and the ecological complexes of which they are a part; this includes diversity within species, between species and of ecosystems. carrying capcity:How much an enviorment can sustain indefinitely, given the food, habitat, water, and other necessities availavble in the environment." resource; a substance or object in the environment required by an organism for normal growth, maintance, and reproduction.
Reflection: Overall, I think that this project could have been improved upon. I enjoyed this project. We ended up working very well together, and we had very few problems. It did not take us very long to think of a good location and project that we wanted to focus on. I think that I knew what I needed to do for most of the project, and I didn't feel lost at any point. Also, I felt that I quickly could catch up with everyone else. However, I think I needed to be more of a leader. I also didn't try to contribute too many ideas of my own, because I thought that my ideas would not be helpful.
