For our second project, we were assigned to make a video about a sports action, and the physics that goes with it. We needed to have a story board with all of the scenes, a script, and all of the calculations for the physics of the action. our group ( Liz King, Casey Leong, Diamond Tesfay) decided to do the physics of a layup in basketball, since one of our members already knew how to play basketball and we would have inside knowledge before hand. We had seven work days to complete the project. For the first two, we finished our script and story board. Then, we went to film outside, but failed to back up the footage. Then, I foolishly lost the SD card, containing all of the film that we had taken the previous day. We then had to retake the footage, which was not too difficult, but it did set us back a day. The next day, Liz and I went to an empty classroom to record voiceovers, while Casey and Diamond edited the footage. Then, we noticed that our calculations were incorrect, so we had to record again. We then presented the video to the class, and we then saw that we really had a lot more work to do. The audio was not consistent with the video, scenes were not in the right places, and the video was way too long. For the last two days, we recorded the audio again, edited the video, and uploaded the video. Here is our final result:
CONTENT: Aspects of the physics in the video, and how to find them: Horizontal velocity: The rate of distance covered horizontally; change in distance/change in time Vertical velocity: the rate of distance covered vertically; acceleration due to gravity times time Total velocity; the rate of distance covered in any direction; (vertical velocity)^2 + (horizontal velocity)^2 = (total velocity)^2 Force: the push or pull on an object; mass times vertical velocity
REFLECTION: This project had a lot of problems, but I thought that in the end, our group worked well. I think that in the beginning is when we had the most problems. When we really saw how many problems we had, and how little time we had left to finish, that is when we all started to do our best. I think that I made a huge mistake when I didn't back up the video, and then I lost the SD card. That was really a careless mistake that should not have happened. Another problem that we had was that not everyone was working their hardest or checking their work to see if it was correct. I didn't really check to see if the calculations were correct, I just read what was in front of me Later on, we had to redo it because it was all wrong, and that wasted a lot of our time. Towards the end, we started to come in at lunch to finish our edits, and that is when everything started to come together. Everyone in the group learned how to use the software, which really sped up the process, and Liz and I redid the voice overs with our other work members to make sure that everything was going as planed. Overall, I would say that I still need to work on leadership and being less careless. I didn't really pay attention to what everyone was doing, and I also made a big mistake in losing the SD card. This was a good project, and I feel that I learned a lot about basket ball, and I think that I can probaley do a layup now.
